Multi-talented Nick Rijnders is a Dutch DJ/producer and MC. Going by the name of Goodgrip, this talented individual combines DJing, making original productions and vocal talents to great effect. With major bookings all over the world and in his home country of the Netherlands, Goodgrip has become a big shot in both the domestic and international music scenes of late.
Goodgrip comes from a musical family, starting out playing the piano when he was only 4 years old. This early education helped develop a serious interest in music, which eventually led to creating beats and writing lyrics. When his father bought him a computer his school days were effectively over. Suddenly, all of Goodgrip's time was consumed by making music. He knew then that this was the path his life had taken.
Goodgrip then joined rap collective Capitol Sounds. This helped him sharpen his keen mic skills. The hook-up with Capitol Sounds led him into Laidback Luke's studio. This one-off meeting became a partnership, with Luke becoming a mentor to him. Luke offered him the vocal lead for his hit single "Rocking With The Best" (also re-released in 2007). This proved to be Goodgrip's big break as an MC, quickly becoming the main MC next to Luke. His journey with Luke took him to gigs all over the Netherlands, even performing at major festivals such as the world-renowned Lowlands.
Since then his MC career has continued to go from strength to strength, hooking up with DJ Irwan for large-scale shows over a two year period. He produced two tracks with Irwan, entitled "Can We Go On" and, perhaps most notably, the"Pimp My Ride" intro for MTV.
Production-wise, things began moving rapidly. He produced a track called "My Selecta" under the name of Creme Fresh. Creme Fresh Music was founded and their followed three tracks by Goodgrip on the label entitled "Everybody Get Moved", "Can't Stand The Noise" and "Never Without", further underlining this talented young producers credentials.
Goodgrip felt there was more to his skills than purely being an MC and studio producer. He decided to pick up the headphones as well as the mic, venturing into the world of DJs. Initially choosing straight up house music, Goodgrip then started to venture into a more eclectic sound, playing RnB & HipHop, thowing in some classics and back to upfront house. With residencies at Zebra Amsterdam, BED by BNN, Creme Fresh and BeatBox in the Netherlands, his future looks bright.
In addition to making waves in the Dutch music scene, Goodgrip has some international flavour to his name with a slew of foreign gigs. He has headlined gigs in Indonesia, Malaysia, Venezuela, America, Curacao, Quatar, Bahrain, UK, Switzerland, Belgium, Germany, Spain, Italy, Turkey, and Greece. Expect his air miles to clock up even more in the near future.
It is rare to have an individual possessing the ability to DJ, produce and also MC, so keep an eye on Goodgrip as he makes his further inroads. With the name Goodgrip referring to one's grip on life, it is clear that Nick Rijnders has got a good grip on life in general, and especially music in 2008.
