DJ Dekky (real name Jeroen te Rehorst) commenced his journey into dance music in the early 1990s. Previously simply a records collector, he was enthralled by the developing Dutch dance scene. He knew then what his calling was. He started playing house at small (school) parties, bars and DJ contests to gain experience, to get used to playing for a crowd and to also learn from other DJs.
After many years of deck time, 2002 saw his first professional industry job, landing the perfect position for an up and coming DJ. He started working as an assistant at Amsterdam's Rhythm Import, the top Dutch dance music distributor of more than 25 years and founder of the Fresh Fruit and Work dance labels. This unique position gave him access to the latest sounds, and allowed him to build a network of contacts in the industry.
The following year was undoubtedly a breakthrough year for Dekky. He was invited to play at the Republiek, one of Holland's hottest beach clubs, and the two most popular clubs in Rotterdam, namely Now & Wow and Las Palmas. Also during this year he was given the opportunity to host the Sunday afternoon Tea Dance parties as a resident DJ. This position saw him invited to play at the new internationally-renowned Suppercruise (hosted by Supperclub) in Amsterdam, playing with artists such as the legendary Ce Ce Peniston.
Dekky has been keen to take his unique sound of quality funky house further. His first foreign adventure was high-profile, guesting for MTV Romania, followed by regular gigs in Greece, UK, Russia, Finland, Germany, Turkey and Spain. His first experience in Ibiza was quite something - he was booked to play Bora Bora, The Blue Marlin and El Divino on the White Isle!
Renowned as being a hard-working and down-to-earth individual, Dekky landed the gig of being resident DJ and music programmer of Mansion on his return to Holland in 2005. Mansion was one of Holland's leading venues and was awarded the Hottest Dutch Venue accolade by multiple national and international media such as MTV, NY Times, Theme UK, TIME and Wallpaper. Dekky's influence stretched way beyond simply booking the DJs; he was responsible for developing the music policy and the entire feel of the wildly-successful events that took place weekly. Dekky oversaw shows which hosted international artists such as Sander Kleinenberg, John Da Silva, Sasha, Laidback Luke, Lucien Foort, Marco V, Roog (Hardsoul), Eddie Amador, MYNC Project, Erick-E, Martijn Ten Velden and Kevin Saunderson.
Dekky went to the next level in 2007, forming his own music label and events company called OnThaFloor, with fellow Dutch DJ Silverius. The company runs the popular Digitalsoul club night and has cooperated on several branded events with international labels like Ministry of Sound, Toolroom Records, CR2 Records, OM Records and Kinkymalinki.
This is also the year that Dekky proved to be a talented producer. Amazingly, his very first release entitled Tu Madre crashed into the Top 3 of the national dance chart and was named Hot New Release by Roger Sanchez in his global Release Yourself radio show (see link below). Follow-up productions from Dekky include Under Control and Ravemachine (Rootz Records), which again received massive support from the DJs that matter and peaked everywhere in the sales and dance charts, including the Megadance top 30 recently.
Expect more hot productions from this talented producer in 2008, including a hot Sneakerz remix of Mark Simmons' track Boogie Bounce. Could this secret weapon, which has only been handed to a select few top DJs, be the tune of the summer? Watch this space...
Currently he is resident of Amsterdam's newest club, Home, and his own successful club night entitled Digitalsoul is still going strong. Dekky has DJ residencies all over Holland, travelling up and down the motorways each weekend to squeeze all the gigs into his busy schedule. A hectic summer is anticipated, especially when the festival season gets into full swing.
